Europe holds the castle which is largest for its medieval structure, in the Czech Republic. This castle in Prague, known as Prague castle earlier used to seat the kings of Czech, and in modern days is the seat the Czech Republic’s President. Every year thousands of people flock to see this castle and has become the premier attraction for tourists.

This castle has seen several wars majority of which were destructive. Such wars and several fires changed the castle which was later renovated. Different political changes and the history of the castle have made this place a real mystery with different palaces and churches.

A major attraction of this castle is the St Vitus Cathedral, the landmark of the city which is mostly recognizable and other things include the towers from which the city can be viewed, a beautiful monastery, art houses, museums, Basilica of St. George where concerts of classical music are held early in the evening, Golden lane.

This castle also has several palaces like Lobkowicz Palace, Burgrave Palace where in the later the famous Summer Shakespeare Festival takes place.

It is said that during ninth century Prague Castle’s first building was built. This was replaced by a Romanesque palace during twelfth century. During the reign of Charles IV a reconstruction of the palace in a gothic style was done. Next reconstruction was done by the Jagellons which was during the fifteenth century’s end.

During 1541 a fire took place after which some renovation works were done. In the period of the supremacy of Rudolf II, the Spanish Hall got its addition. Empress Maria Theresa did some alterations with the help of renowned builder M. Pacassi. After World War I, architect J. Plecnik, undertook the task of renovating the castle. This castle is considered as one of the most beautiful castles of the world.
